I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Katy Texas. I currently preside as a Board of Director for the National Alliance on Mental Illness-Greater Houston. My practice offers psychotherapy services for individuals, and families.
Individuals that contact me usually do so because they are experiencing difficulty in their personal relationships or are experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of anxiety, depression, or stress. By the time I am contacted they have been in distress for greater than 3 to 6 months. They want relief, and a safe place to heal.
I have experience working with clients on a range of issues and life situations, including:
• Women's Issues
• Eating Disorders
• Aging Issues
• Individuals Questioning Their Sexuality
• Anxiety and Depression
• Relationship Conflict
• Adjustment Disorders
• Stress Management
I also have lead support groups for parents of teens struggling with depression. In addition, I have served on various panel discussions and provided a great deal of resources throughout the Greater Houston Area.
Topics include: Mental Health and Teens, Removing the Stigma of Mental Illness, and Suicide Prevention.
Glenda's approach to counseling…
I believe that where the mind goes, the body will follow. When we work on your thinking, your feelings and behaviors will change.
The psychotherapy relationship is one that is based on trust and understanding, which is imperative for healing to take place. The nature of our relationship will be a collaborative one where you and I will work together to accomplish your set goals.
I use an integrated counseling approach that combines Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) with Person Centered Counseling. In addition, incorporating Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to combat Trauma. Our relationship is based on unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruence.
On the personal side…
I am a Native Houstonian, and have been working in the Helping Profession for a little over thirteen years with experience in education and crisis intervention. I found my passion in Counseling/Mental Health advocacy from working with children in the education setting and through my experience with children in the foster care system.
